Monica Ospina


For over ten years, Monica has worked on defining new approaches to balancing community development and securing operational productivity in the extractive industry. Her expertise in CSR, Sustainable Development and Supply Chain motivated her to start O Trade in 2007.

Monica is the author of the Local Community Procurement Program (LCPP), a Sustainable Supply Chain model awarded by the World Bank among the Top 15 innovations or the World Bank Procurement Innovation Challenge 2012.

Monica holds a Master's Degree in Diplomatic Studies from the University of Westminster, and has completed postgraduate programs in Sustainability Management from Harvard University and International Business Strategy, from the London School of Economics.  Monica was Professor in Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainable Development and International Sourcing and Procurement, at Seneca College in Canada.  Currently, she is Guest Lecturer at Queen’s University in Canada, Georgia College and State University in the US, and Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico.  She has been guest speaker at the IFC Sustainability Exchange Conference and guest participant at the Working Session: Procurement and Community Development, at Rio + 20 Corporate Sustainability Forum, organized by United Nations Global Compact.

Fabiano Poester

Local Content & Development

Fabiano is a Business Administration professional with a recognized ability to engage dialogue with cultural diverse groups. With knowledge and experience in community engagement, he was the Project Manager of LCPP for Kinross Gold in Ecuador with a focus on the sustainable supply chain, capacity mapping and knowledge transfer programs for local communities.

He provides support to projects related to sustainable development and corporate social responsibility and strives to engage communities, private and public sector in the implementation of sustainability solutions customized for each project. With years of experience in the sustainability industry he has developed the skills to produce sustainable business plans based on sustainable key performance indicators and standards such as GRI and ISO 24000 Social Responsibility.

Fabiano holds a MBA in Foreign Trade and International Business from Getúlio Vargas Foundation in Brazil, a Bachelor of Business Management from Fundação Universidade Federal do Rio Grande in Brazil and postgraduate in Green Business Management from Seneca College in Canada.  In addition to studies in international negotiation, green house gas emissions, GRI and ISO 24000 Social Responsibility.

Carlos Espinosa

Government Affairs

Carlos has over 25 years of experience combining international business development and Canadian capital markets, mainly in natural resources and advanced manufacturing industries.

In 2008 Carlos founded SoftLanding Group Mexico, Inc., a boutique advisory firm based in Toronto, Canada dedicated to assist Canadian natural resources companies with interests in Latin America, developing government affairs and identifying investment opportunities in the region; as well as assisting Latin American companies accessing Canadian capital markets.

For over four years, Carlos was the Head of Business Development, Global Mining at Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV). And for nine years Carlos was posted as Deputy Trade Commissioner of Mexico in Toronto promoting trade and investment between Mexico and Canada.

Carlos is a guest lecturer at UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México).

Claudia Jones

Conflict Management and Grievance Mechanism

With over ten years of experience working with disadvantaged populations in both Canada and Spanish speaking countries, Claudia has a wide range of expertise regarding the developmental links between the individuals, their communities and diverse stakeholders.

Claudia has worked for the Ministry of Child and Youth Services as a Family/Child Protection Worker, as a Settlement Counsellor for refugees and new immigrants to Canada, and is currently working as the Grievance Mechanism Coordinator for O Trade. Claudia has dedicated her professional life to be a case manager and advocate for vulnerable populations and their relations with community development, self-advocacy and policy change.

Claudia holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Ryerson University as well as a number of professional training seminars, conferences and workshops by the Ministry of Child and Youth Services, Immigration Canada, Toronto Police, Catholic Crosscultural Services and Victim Services Of Toronto.

Adriana Robert

Built Environment and cross-cultural communication

An architect with a soft spot for timber, straw bales and rammed earth, Adriana strives to produce well balanced schemes where environmental health, end-user comfort and budget are introduced at an early stage within the project.

Adriana is a professional with fourteen years of experience. She has been involved in residential and office schemes where consultation and dialogue have contributed to the success of the projects.

Adriana holds a degree in Architecture from Universidad de los Andes, Colombia, and a Master Degree in Timber Construction from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. Se has worked in Colombia, the UK and France. Adriana also supports O Trade with the translations and the design and management of the website.

Samia Hasan

Agriculture & Food Security

Samia is a Food Engineer with knowledge in agriculture and food production, including food hygiene, public health and capacity building. Her expertise in educating local communities about food production and hygiene has contributing to the implementation of our programs while securing the well being of the communities where we operate.

Samia’s interests lie in understanding the needs of communities particularly women, farmers and children, and contributing to the implementation of good practices and HSEQ in the food supply chain.

Samia holds an Food Engineer degree from Universidad de la Salle, Colombia, and is a Certified Auditor for ISO 9001.
